Women In Music with Laney Goodman Comes To Podcasting

(PRLEAP.COM) Founded in 1996, Women In Music started broadcasting on a handful of public radio stations, and support has been growing ever since. This weekly, one-hour show features excellent music from female musicians and women-fronted bands from many genres. From folk to jazz, singer/songwriters to blues, alternative to acoustic, Americana roots to world beat, Women In Music has something for everyone. Now heard on more than 88 markets, nationwide, Women In Music has built a loyal listenership through the United States, as well as abroad.

Host Laney Goodman has been honing her unique mix for over 18 years as a radio host and producer, and half the artists she plays each week on Women In Music are independent or unsigned. But all the musicians she plays are accomplished and talented — and rarely heard anywhere else on-air.

Women In Music has been at the leading edge of the music scene from the start; it was one of the first shows picked up by Audionet.com (later Broadcast.com, which was acquired by Yahoo) and broadcast to an international audience online. Now Women In Music is continuing the tradition of joining emerging technologies with emerging new artists, through podcasting each week’s show.

Listeners can download the show at http://www.podgrrls.net to play on their computers or on their MP3 players, like the Apple iPod. Listeners can also subscribe to RSS feeds, which tell them about upcoming shows. Each week, a 15-minute preview MP3 of the upcoming show will be available to feed subscribers, and for the month of July, one-hour shows are available for download free of charge.

Starting in August, full-length shows of Women In Music will be available to subscribers for $1.50 each. This nominal fee helps offset hosting and production costs, and it helps Women In Music make cutting-edge indie music available to a worldwide audience, in an engaging mix as only Laney Goodman can create. 15-minute show previews will continue to be free of charge, and weekly updates will be available.

Melusine Records Releases Brook's “Love Like a Stream”

Melusine Records released Brook’s second solo CD, “Love Like a Stream”. The album was recorded live at venues in the San Francisco Bay Area in the Fall of 2004. The performances are mostly intimate vocal and guitar performances with themes of loves transformed, universal connection, divine mysteries, and peace. The CD is available at CDbaby.com.

Berkeley, Calif. (PRWEB) -- Melusine Records released Brook’s second solo CD, “Love Like a Stream”. The album was recorded live at venues in the San Francisco Bay Area in the Fall of 2004. The performances are mostly intimate vocal and guitar performances with themes of loves transformed, universal connection, divine mysteries, and peace. The CD is available at CDbaby.com.

In the 10 tracks, "Love Like a Stream" contains lyric tales and exploratory guitar improvisations, along with more traditional vocal pop song forms. Three of the performances include extended guitar improvisations. Greg Humphrey of "The CD Workshop" compares this guitar work to that of Michael Hedges. Brook explores using drone strings and the sympathetic resonances that are the distinct province of the acoustic guitar. But, as is typical of Brook's performances, listeners will enjoy the acoustic blues slide on "The Great Blues Sea" and the laid-back bossa inspired jazz playing on "Gin 'n Honey".

Among the new songs on this release, "When Love Calls" speaks to the delights and dangers of falling in love. The verse is over a dense chord vamp which opens into the rhythmic groove. "Gin 'N Honey", a hook filled tale of relationship transformation is set to complex jazz harmonies over a bossa feel. "Peace is a Shining Jewel" declares the need to both cherish and to stand up for peace, while "Everything Calls Me to Act" speaks to Brook's sense of connectedness to the universe and how this connection is his basis to take action. "Everything is precious, Everything calls me to act." And, there is Brook's love song to the acoustic guitar, "Piece of Wood".

The one cover tune on the album is "My Soul Says So", authored by Bhakti vocalist Suzanne Sterling and rhythm master Jeffery Alphonsus Mooney. Brook has set the song to an R&B feel as the closing track. At concerts audiences love to sing along with the anthemic hook line, "If my soul says so, I do as my soul says."

On the three accompanied tracks are Mark Patrella of "Dangerous Martini", acoustic bass, Dennis Fortin from "Lincoln Street Jazz Band", bass, and Pat Wynne and Bernie Gilbert, backup vocal.

The album was recorded at The Nomad Café, Oakland, Simple Pleasures Café, San Francisco, Redwood Gardens and a house concert both in Berkeley. The performances were recorded using direct to digital using technology by iRiver ™ and Behringer ™ and digitally mastered by Winter at El Bueno Mundo Studios in San Francisco.

Brook has worked with Bo Diddley and his BoKay Production Company, Chuck Berry, “The Reverend” Steve Weist, and appeared with Bruce Langhorn, among others. Brook’s folk and rock work includes Linda Hershorn, Mokai, Anne Hill, T. Thorn Coyle, Pat Wynne, The Cheats, and The Freedom Song Network. He has also accompanied many jazz performers like Bill Watrous, Bobbie Shew, and Al Shachman. He co-led the African Jazz Ensemble with Motown percussionist Renaldo Jackson. He took Mimi Fox’s vacated seat in the Joyce Baker Group, accompanying jazz singer Opie Bellas for 3 years. In addition, he has worked and recorded with many local groups, including blues, rock, folk, American roots, fusion, big band, and progressive jazz, making appearances at the Berkeley Jazz Festival, in clubs, on radio, and on television.

City Canyons Records Releases ANEMO's New Album "slow burn"

City Canyons Records announces the Tuesday, September 6 release of ANEMO'S "slow burn," featuring knock-out stratospheric vocals, courtesy of lovely diva and former movie actress, Hazelle Woodhurst.

(PRWEB) -- City Canyons Records announced today the Tuesday, September 6 release of "slow burn" a remarkably original album by a new creative force from the United Kingdom, ANEMO. Release of "slow burn" will be supported by a North American radio promotion program and a full scale publicity and public relations campaign both in traditional media and on the internet. Prior to the general release date in retail stores, "slow burn" will be available in limited quantities online at CD Baby and at the City Canyons Records Online Store. A separate release in the U.K., with full distribution, is slated for early 2006.

ANEMO is bracingly fresh, featuring its own definitive sound which combines crunchy drums and expressive guitars ranging from pop-rock to metal with knock-out stratospheric vocals, courtesy of lovely diva Hazelle Woodhurst. That sound and those vocals wrap around strong edgy lyrics and songwriting from the team of Woodhurst, Kingsley Sage (keyboards) with additional contributions from Matt Palmer (guitar).

ANEMO completed its first CD , under the Stoat Records label imprint, in late 2001 and made its first public appearance at the Hippodrome Theatre soon thereafter for the BBC. ANEMO is now signed to a multi-album deal with City Canyons Records.

Prior to the formation of ANEMO, Ms. Woodhurst worked as an actress with roles in various films including BBC Scotland’s “Invasion Earth" and “Shakespeare in Love”. She also appeared in Stanley Kubrick’s “Eyes Wide Shut,” participating in an on-film orgy with Tom Cruise among others. Kingsley Sage worked previously in the 5 piece band Jumbo which released 2 singles on the Stoat Records label and also produced material for a range of artists including Icelandic indie-hipsters Bellatrix (for the “Diamond Gods” Bowie tribute album). Matt Palmer spends most of his non-music time off the beaches of Devon surfing.

City Canyons Records is an independent record label based in Manhattan. Current releases include Jen Elliott and Bluestruck's THE SECRET'S OUT, David Steele's UNDERNEATH THE ICE, Valerian's INTIMATIONS OF SORROW and former Dead Can Dance drummer Peter Ulrich's ENTER THE MYSTERIUM. Upcoming releases include Sara Wendt's HERE'S US and Jen Elliott and Bluestruck's second album THIS DAMN SONG.

Cutting Edge 24/7 Hip Hop Internet Radio Station Begins Broadcasting

HipHopFundaMentalz.com (iHHF), a cutting-edge Internet radio station, has begun broadcasting worldwide. iHHF features an all-star lineup of disc jockeys from across the globe.

Massapequa, NY --(PR.COM)-- HipHopFundaMentalz.com (iHHF), a cutting-edge Internet radio station, has begun broadcasting worldwide. iHHF features an all-star lineup of disc jockeys from across the globe.

iHHF is unique for many reasons. Most Internet radio “stations” are merely one radio show with songs randomly playing while the show is not airing. This is where iHHF differs. iHHF has a lineup of over 25 uncensored mixshows from DJs and personalities from all over the world. Some of these shows resemble formats commonly used on terrestrial radio. “There is so much raw potential pertaining to music on the Internet. This station will tap into that.” says Jason “PrizMatiK” Zaffron, iHHF’s station manager.

In between shows, the station has an extensive database of tracks from every aspect of the Hip Hop spectrum. These songs are coded with specific rotation rules that enable those in demand to air more frequently than others.

iHHF combines talent from the newest independent artist to the most established of acts. The website also offers a place for people to communicate with one another and get in touch with those of a similar mindset. “This station combines an ideology that will not only take the Hip Hop community to the next level, but showcase an element that many seek and is not easily accessible,” says Jason Zaffron.

With many major sponsorships and partnerships in the works, iHHF is already gaining recognition from both the music industry and fans alike. The combination of Hip Hop and its culture displayed on iHHF is bound to create a new phenomenon for the way the music industry connects with one another.

Nice -- much of the Hip Hop available these days consists of flat beats and rhythms, worn out hyper-serious rants about their prowess in general (not that this isn't fun, too), or a relatively uncreative copy of other 'Pop-Rap' artists and beatmakers in the industry... [ read the full review ]
