Masterminds of sound, the acoustic / electronic pop band Deliccato touches something liquid and emotional and brings to life a genre all their own. With the crystal clear recording and well developed production, riveting live shows, and a quirk never to be repeated by any band before or sense ... I think ... I expect the indie music scene will be seeing a lot more of these guys in the near future.
The first time I had the chance to listen to these guys was in the days of MP3.Com, and I was completely blown away -- the crazy electronic fusion and raw emotional power of "Awake" was enough to get me to download ALL of the tracks available on thier MP3.Com page. And there were a LOT of them, that's for sure. Each song was better than the last; with an amazing ability to use odd mixes of abstraction and rocking grooves, every tune was somehow able to sonically reproduce an emotion ... Geisha Glory and Deliccato (both part of the KiteFishing Family) have a sound you 1) haven't heard before, and 2) will want to hear again. Trust me.
At it's helm is producer and figurehead Camden Chamberlain who, in 2001, began an experimental electronic recording collective. The moniker Deliccato was settled upon over a fine Italian meal where Delicato brand wine was the drink of choice. During 2001 Deliccato released two albums entitled "Stream" (a reference to their method of 'stream of consciousness' composing) and "Goodbye Adalanda" (released around the same time Camden moved away from Atlanta GA.) respectively. In January 2002 Camden relocated to London for a two-month recording stint with songwriter and producer Jeremy Parsons (son of the legendary Alan Parsons.) Many of the songs written and recorded there would later find their way into the Deliccatolive shows.
The latest and most well defined incarnation of Deliccato came into being in October 2003. This new live/recording lineup features Camden Chamberlain, Alex Pappas, Scott Fetzer, Aaron Nelson, and Lindsay Heath.
I'm most impressed with this band's versatility and creativity. One of my favorite songs of their's is 'Jesus in a Woman's Hip' off the album "Everyone Loves the Sun." I'm drawn in by the magnetic pull of these skilled musicians. They are part of The Kitefishing Family, a community of incredible musicians all of who deserve a spot on the front page. Check them all out at kitefishingfamily.com.
